The Basics
My full name is Ivy Tan. I have no middle name. I was born in the morning of December 19, 1985 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, I am Singaporean by passport although I've only spent 2 years of my entire life there. I currently live in the more diverse city world Toronto, Canada. I am a full-time Political Science major at the University of Toronto and a part-time in-house designer for Leave The Pack Behind.
The Global Nomad
I have had the priviledge of living in 4 different countries. As a result, my parents put me in international schools to ensure standardized education. Some schools I went to included Jakarta International School, Singapore American School and the International School of Kuala Lumpur. This nomadic lifestyle has taught me to appreciate the diversity of this world's cultures and an appreciate for foreign languages. So, I now speak 9 languages: English, Mandarin, Hokkien, French, Cantonese, Korean, Spanish and Indonesian. Though some of these languages are getting kinda rusty.
Religion
I am a free thinker. I respect all religions but I believe that my spiritual journey should be ventured alone. I believe that universal truth can be found within each of us. It is all a matter of undertanding yourself in relation to the world. For this reason, I choose to be free of organized religion.
Hobbies
School and work occupy most of my time now. But if I have the luxury of free time, I usually spend time with my boyfriend, design websites, go make-up shopping, work out at the gym and play a few rounds of billiards. You would think a legal college kid would go clubbing and drinking every chance she gets but nah, growing up in Asia meant underage drinking and manic partying. I started when I was 13 by the time I turned 17, I was sick of it. I still go clubbing once a while, but it's really not my idea of fun anymore.
Music
I love to sing and dance. Too bad I haven't had a chance to perform since I graduated from high school. Anyways, I love R&B, Jazz, Hip-hop and Kpop. I was the original Kpop lover; I started listening to Kpop waaay before the Hallyu craze. Watching 6 topless hunks dancing back in 1999 got me hooked on Korean pop music ever since. My favorite artists include SE7EN, Rain, Wheesung, Brown Eyes, Fly to the Sky, As One, Lee Hyori etc.
Personality
I used to be extremely extroverted and carefree. Then adulthood got the better of me. I am generally more introverted and more serious now. Some traits don't change with age though. I am still very down-to-earth and compassionate. According to the Myers-Briggs personality test, I am an ENTJ otherwise known as the Leader/Fieldmarshal. It is both a blessing and a curse. Some people consider ENTJs to be cold, heartless slave drivers. In truth, we are very compassionate and are always looking out for others' best interests. Just because we don't show that we care, doesn't mean we don't. Some people just find it harder to express emotions than others. As a result, I sometimes feel misunderstood.
